Brown Jennifer Joins Northwest Nursing Students To Collect Yoplait Lids For Cancer Research

2011 Dec 7

Brown Jennifer of Horn Lake joined fellow students in the Division of Nursing at Northwest Mississippi Community College in collecting Yoplait lids in October to redeem through the "Save Lids to Save Lives" program. Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the CureA? for each pink lid redeemed by Dec. 31, 2011, up to $2 million.

Nursing student Jennifer Brown of Horn Lake brought the fundraising idea to the attention of administrators. "I decided to collect the lids to help raise awareness of breast cancer and raise money for research, because it has affected close family members and friends of mine," said Brown.

Since she lacked the time and money she wanted to devote to the cause, Brown decided to collect Yoplait lids and encouraged her classmates and instructors to do the same. "It's inexpensive and something I buy on a regular basis, but at the same time it benefits people who have been affected with breast cancer. It's true what they say, a little can go a long way."

Brown decorated the collection box with a quote from the American Cancer Society that she hoped would inspire people to remember her projecta?""I'm creating a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays."

Brown hopes students continue collecting even more Yoplait lids in years to come, as long as the "Save Lids to Save Lives" campaign continues.
