Justin Mathews Helps Senatobia Middle School with Vision Screenings

2011 Nov 8

Northwest Nursing students are well known for their volunteerism in their community-collecting soda tabs for Ronald McDonald house in Memphis to recycle for fundraising, collecting Yoplait yogurt lids for breast cancer research, collecting food for the needy each holiday season and teaching area elementary schoolers about hygiene, healthy habits and playground safety.

Recently Northwest Nursing student Justin Mathews of Byhalia joined eight classmates in assisting Senatobia Middle School nurse, Angie Crockett, with conducting vision screenings for all of the middle school students.

"We have helped with this the past couple of years each fall," said Division of Nursing instructor Monica Williams. "We typically send four to six students on two to three separate days, for about two hours each day. Otherwise, she would be doing these screenings all by herself, which would be an exhausting and lengthy process."
