Sonja Wilson Participates In Community Service Project With Northwest Practical Nursing Class

2012 Aug 1

Sonja Wilson of Southaven was among several Northwest Mississippi Community College DeSoto practical nursing students who participated in a community service project at the Care Pregnancy Resource Center in Southaven as part of their summer maternal-child class.

The students and instructors donated baby items including diapers, bottles, formula, bibs and bags to the center. The Care Pregnancy Resource Center provides care for pregnant mothers who are unable to financially meet the needs for their newborn babies.

"We appreciated the center and their dedicated volunteers, such as Claudia and Beverly, who provide care for pregnant women in the Mid-South area, for providing us with information and allowing our class to participate in their walk-a-thon to raise monies for this important community non-profit organization," said Paula Geeter, Northwest practical nursing instructor.

The Practical Nursing program prepares the individual to assist in providing general nursing care, which is performed under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or dentist. The program requires 43 hours of credit over three semesters. The Practical Nursing program is offered on the DeSoto, Senatobia and Oxford campuses and also at the Benton County Vo-Tech Center in Ashland.
