"American Idol" Star, Colton Dixon, is Performing at Heindl Center May 17

by Sarah Smith

Senatobia, MS (04/30/2024) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's Heindl Center for the Performing Arts will welcome Christian rock singer, Colton Dixon, to the stage on May 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Dixon famously made his appearance on "American Idol" where he made it to the top 7, performing songs like "Decode" by Paramore, "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, and others. Originally, Dixon is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and was a member of the Christian band, Messenger.

Dixon takes musical influences from the likes of Paramore, Lifehouse, Evanescence, Switchfoot and Skillet. Sticking true to some alternative rocker roots, his sound has the same elements that listeners love in those bands.

"We are thrilled to welcome Colton Dixon to the Heindl Center stage for an electrifying concert experience," said Dr. Blake Bostick, director of the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts. "Colton Dixon rose to fame on the 11th season of "American Idol." Since then, he has cultivated an impressive musical catalog, releasing six studio albums, including major Christian radio hits like 'Build a Boat,' 'Miracles,' and 'Through All of It.' Recording alongside internationally renowned talents like TobyMac, Matthew West, and for KING & COUNTRY, Colton's unique blend of pop and rock has won him two Dove Awards and seven Grammy nominations, cementing his status as a celebrated artist in the Christian music genre."
