Katie Broadway Announced as Northwest's Director of Career-Technical Education and Program Advancement

Senatobia, MS (07/24/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College recently announced Bruce native, Katie Broadway, as the new director of Career-Technical Education and Program Advancement.

Broadway was a first-generation college student at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Broadway said this is where she developed a love for the community college system. With the changes that college life brought, she realized she wanted to work as a career counselor, so she changed her major to education and got her bachelor's in elementary education, followed by a master's in counseling with her goal of working at a community college one day in mind.

"Prior to my employment at Northwest, I was an academic counselor for the School of Education at the University of Mississippi," Broadway said. "While working at Ole Miss I was presented with an opportunity to apply for a career counselor position within the Career-Technical division at Northwest."

Throughout her time as a career counselor, she said she helped students find their best paths, and to find ways into high-demand jobs. She said after a few years of doing that, she found herself transitioning to the employee partnership coordinator position, where she helped forge new partnerships and foster existing ones between employers looking to hire and students who either recently graduated or would be looking for a career soon.

"Both of those positions provided me with a better understanding of the students we serve and the programs we provide to benefit our communities while also providing me the foundation needed to be better prepared for my current role," Broadway said.

She said this new opportunity as director has allowed her to build the Diesel Technology program at the Batesville Concourse as well as the new Industrial Automation and Controls program.

"Being in this role is exciting," Broadway said. "I have an opportunity to help build and grow new and existing programs to better serve our students, employers, and community."
