Northwest Announces Amanda Wilson as New District Director of Social Science Instruction
Senatobia, MS (11/30/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College has announced Amanda Wilson as the new district director of Social Science Instruction in October of 2023.
A native of Senatobia, she said like many people she always thought she'd grow up and move away, but as she aged, she found her sentimental side taking root, and she found a renewed love for her hometown, especially as she built her family life.
"I'm a family person at heart," Wilson said.
Wilson is the mother of three sons-Jax, 16, Ronin, 15, and Gunnar, 13, and wife to her high school sweetheart, John, who attended Northwest with her in the late 90s.
After graduating from Northwest in 1998, she went on to get her bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Mississippi, then her master's degree in community counseling at Delta State University. Since graduating, Wilson has been a part of the Northwest community serving in various roles through the years, from a WIN Job Center employee to a counseling role and later into a faculty member position.
For Wilson, the role of going into teaching was to spend more time with her sons as they were growing up, and she has greatly enjoyed her time teaching and counseling through the years. She has also helped with evening programs and the process of dual enrollment for the Social Science Department.
Stepping into this new role, Wilson said she's very excited and proud.
"I am passionate about what I do, and we have such a good department," Wilson said.
Wilson said she's incredibly proud not only of her department, but of the college as a whole because of growth and retention.
