Northwest Appoints Charlesy Kennedy to Athletic Academic Advisor Position

SENATOBIA - Northwest Mississippi Community College has announced the hiring of Charlesy Kennedy as the college's new athletic academic advisor, effective Monday, October 16.

"I am excited to have Charlesy come and work with our student-athletes and their academics," Northwest athletic director Jake Gordon said. "She has a very prepared work ethic and comes with a background of both education and athletics."

A native of Calhoun City, Kennedy joins Northwest from the Water Valley School District, where she has served as an eighth-grade teacher and the school's head softball coach since 2021. Prior to her stint in Water Valley, Kennedy taught at Calhoun City High School, her alma mater, from 2019-21 and served as an assistant softball coach for the Lady Wildcats.

Prior to Calhoun City, Kennedy was the assistant coach at Vardaman High School in Calhoun County from 2016-19. She also played one season of college softball at Holmes Community College in 2015.

Kennedy is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where she attained a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2018. She later earned her master's of athletic leadership from Rider University in 2022.

"I am incredibly grateful to Northwest for this opportunity to serve our student-athletes," Kennedy said. "I've been in the classroom as a teacher for almost five years and a coach for almost eight. I feel confident that my knowledge and background experience as a student-athlete, coach, and educator will help me provide Northwest student-athletes with the opportunities necessary for them to succeed beyond the field or court. Northwest provides outstanding resources for their student-athletes to succeed in every aspect of their education, and I am excited and thankful to be a facilitator of their success."

Kennedy replaces Liesl Davenport, who served in the same position from 2020-23.
