Northwest offers fall continuing education classes

Senatobia, MS (08/11/2017) — The Division of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering four classes on the Senatobia campus this fall. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for the classes. All classes will be held on the Senatobia campus.

New Tools for Your Teaching Tool Belt (1.0 CEU)

This class will explore topics that will help you add tools to your teaching tool belt.

Whether it be a new way of taking attendance, a new tool that gets students to think outside the box, new technology tools or tools to encourage reading and writing, we will explore new ways to enhance your classroom instruction.

Come enjoy gaining new ideas about new tools you can add to your teaching tool belt that will make the teaching and learning experience in your classroom more exciting.

The class will be offered for five Mondays, Sept. 11, 18, 25 and Oct. 2, 16 from 5 - 7 p.m. The fee is $100 and the class will be held in Technical Education Building 1, Room 119. The deadline to register is Aug. 31.

Basic Computers (1.5 CEUs)

This class is designed for adults who have little or no previous computer experience. It is ideal for adults who are interested in learning basic computer tasks, including working with Windows 10, navigating the web, using email, and learning basic word processing.

The class will be offered for eight Mondays, Sept. 11, 18, 25, Oct. 2, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. The fee is $135 and the class will be held in Berry 104. The deadline to register is Aug. 29.

Microsoft Excel (1.5 CEUs)

Students will learn how to get around in Excel without being intimidated by the program. Some of the things that will be taught will be setting up a workbook document while creating formulas and charts and functions such as sorting, filtering, and printing. You will learn how to use Excel in other computer programs.

Excel is a computer program that is often preferred or required when employers are looking for new personnel. If you are looking to re-enter the working world, this would be an excellent class for you to take so that you will have a working knowledge of Excel.

The class will be offered for eight Tuesdays, Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3, 17, 24 and

Nov. 7, 14 from 6 - 8 p.m. The fee is $135 and the class will be held in Berry 104. The deadline to register is Aug. 29.

CPR Heartsaver and AED with First Aid (0.5 CEUs)

This course is designed for those responsible for children's health.

It is intended for childcare and foster care workers, teachers, recreation and other community staff, camp counselors and new parents, guardians, and other caregivers.

In this course we will cover pediatric first aid; adult, child, and infant CPR with mask and adult and child AED.

Pediatric first aid topics include: eye injuries, fever; snake, spider, tick, and animal bites; stings and injuries and medical emergencies.

The class will be offered for two Tuesdays, Sept. 19 and 26 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. The fee is $55 and the class will be held in Technical Education Building 1, Room 119. The deadline to register is Sept. 11.

To register for a class, drop by the Haraway Center, Office 156 or visit the Northwest website at www.northwestms.edu and download the Continuing Education brochure which contains a registration form that can be returned to the office by mail or in person.

Registration fees are refunded in full if the class for which an enrollment is full, the class is cancelled or the student notifies the office of Continuing Education prior to the registration deadline. Class fees may be paid by cash, check or credit card.
