Northwest's Lawayne House's Art Displayed Around Midsouth
Senatobia, MS (09/21/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's art instructor, Lawayne House of Memphis, is being displayed in exhibitions around the state and in Tennessee.
House's works are being shown at Meridian Mississippi Community College's Casteel Art Gallery located in the Davidson Fine Arts Center in Ivy-Scaggs Hall from September 5 to October 5. The closing reception will be held on October 5 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
In January 2024 to February 2024, House's work will be displayed in the Trezevant Manor in Memphis, Tennessee.
The collection that is being shown at both exhibitions is his "Theoria Poiesis Praxis."
"My paintings, monoprints, and ink drawings depict my process of thinking, making, and doing," House said. "Theoria, Poiesis, and Praxis, all hinged on that which is sometimes lost, yet found, meditated upon, imagined, studied, or automatic."
This collection is about years of experience through House's perspective of thinking, making, and doing. There's a series of monoprints which House describes as a "visual surprise of texture, flaws, shapes, and residue."
Before House's time at Northwest, he worked in advertising with the greeting card company, Hallmark. In 2001, House joined the Northwest community as an Adjunct Professor, and in 2002 he began a graduate program at the Memphis College of Art. In 2004, he was awarded his terminal degree in Studio Art, the Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in painting.
House's works have been displayed in local and national exhibitions, and he's elated about these latest shows.
