Northwest's Video Coordinator and Digital Media Specialist Chosen for College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 List

Senatobia, MS (12/15/2025) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's Video Coordinator and Digital Media Specialist, Matthew Mixson of Auburn, Ala., was announced as a 2025 College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30. The honor recognizes emerging athletics communications professionals at all levels of college sports in strategic, creative and digital spaces.

"I am extremely proud of the work Matthew has accomplished at Northwest," said Dr. Andrew Dale, associate vice president of Community Relations. "He is an invaluable member of our team, and since his arrival he has introduced a heightened level of creative content to the college. His commitment to thoroughly documenting every area of our athletics programs is exemplary-most notably his documentary 'The Perfect Rangers,' a year-long examination of Northwest's first national championship soccer team. He demonstrates an unparalleled work ethic and consistently seeks to refine his craft while strengthening the college's brand. Matthew's contributions have undoubtedly elevated the standards for all of us who document the students in and around Northwest."

Mixson, who serves all areas of the college, came into his position nearly three years ago with a particular interest in sports. In his time at the college, he has taken the college's sports media to new heights with his work on the college's first-ever athletic documentary that chronicled the women's soccer team as they went through an undefeated season to the first women's soccer NJCAA National Championship title for the college.

"Honestly, I am shocked," said Mixson. "It is a privilege to be nominated for this award, let alone win it. I feel as if my contributions to Northwest have been significant in promoting it and moving programs forward. I am very honored to receive this award. I am very blessed to be at Northwest, because without the success of and support from the college, the opportunities to create videos are more limited."

Growing up in Auburn, Mixson was always a devout fan of Auburn University athletics and while he studied there, he was a student worker for Auburn's Emmy Award-winning athletics media team, War Eagle Productions, as well as for Auburn University's technology transfer office, where he helped create videos for promotional purposes.

Mixson also studied at Southern University Community College before transferring to Auburn, where he received his bachelor's degree in visual media in 2022. In Spring 2023, he got straight to work as Northwest's video man and has been making history since winning numerous state awards for his work.
