Senatobia, MS (09/26/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's Heindl Center of the Performing Arts presents Grammy Award Winning, Third Coast Percussion on October 2 at 7:30 p.m.

"We are thrilled to welcome Third Coast Percussion to the Heindl Center on October 2," said Director of the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts, Blake Bostick. "They are a Grammy-winning 4-man ensemble from Chicago who play a wide variety of percussion instruments, and musicians of all ages are sure to love their exciting performance. They are also offering a field trip workshop show at 10:00 a.m. on October 3 for K-6 graders that will allow for a more interactive educational experience with these world-class percussionists."

Formed in 2005, Third Coast Percussion has performed hundreds of concerts and present an annual concert in their hometown, Chicago. They also teach musicians of all ages and experience levels. Furthermore, they commission works by new composers such as Glenn Kotche, Chris Cerrone, Donnacha Dennehy, Timo Andres, David T. Little, Ted Hearne, and Augusta Read Thomas.

The ensemble is made up of David Skidmore, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, and Sean Connors, together they strive to present an energetic performance that celebrates a wide variety of musical possibilities. They met while studying at Northwestern University and have been friends making music together since. They also built a nonprofit organization that supports full-time staff, office and studio space, and a board of directors.

The group's interesting tastes have helped them forge a unique group and music. In 2017, they were awarded their Grammy for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for their recording of the Steve Reich percussion. Since then, they have also received four additional Grammy nominations. In 2021 they received their first nomination as composers.

The New York Times has praised the group as "commandingly elegant."
