Northwest Foundation receives annual donation from BancorpSouth
Senatobia, MS (04/12/2019) — Northwest Mississippi Community College President, Dr. Michael Heindl and Patti Gordon, executive director of Institutional Advancement recently accepted a contribution of $6,000 from BancorpSouth to the Northwest Foundation, designated for their "Share the Future" annual scholarships.
BancorpSouth has a 20-year history of giving to Northwest, according to Gordon. Since 1999, they have given a total of $236,703 to the Foundation. She stated that in 1999, The BancorpSouth Endowed Scholarship was established. Students who receive this scholarship must be from a county served by BancorpSouth.
Additionally, in 2000, BancorpSouth began the annual "Share the Future" Scholarships, which awards two students full-tuition scholarships for two semesters. Students must be from DeSoto County and be first-time freshmen, Gordon said.
She said that BancorpSouth has also been a long-timeco-sponsor of the 2+2 Scholarship Golf Tournament, held annually at Cherokee Valley Golf Club in Olive Branch. "Hundreds of scholarships have been awarded to students who attend the DeSoto Center in Southaven from the success of this tournament."
"Half of the tournament proceeds are awarded to DeSoto Center/Northwest students and half to DeSoto Center/Ole Miss students," Gordon said. "BancorpSouth has also donated to other Northwest programs like rodeo, football, and fine arts. We are sincerely grateful for the generous support they have given us over the last 20 years," Gordon added.
