Northwest to host Sycamore Arts' upcoming "Art on the Edge" exhibit

Senatobia, MS (01/30/2019) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's February art exhibition, "Art on the Edge," sponsored by Sycamore Arts, will feature a variety of works by local artists.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m., and the exhibition will run from Feb. 4 - March 8 in the Northwest Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus.

According to Karen Brown, Sycamore Arts treasurer, contributing artists from Memphis, Southaven, Senatobia, Hernando, Olive Branch, Coldwater, Strayhorn and Nesbit will participate in the exhibit. Media used in the exhibit include acrylic, oil, mixed media, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, pencil, fabric and handcrafted jewelry.

"We want to encourage our participating artists to step out of any comfort zone and try a different 'edgier' style or medium," Brown said. She added that our part of the state is sort of "on the edge of Mississippi, since Senatobia is in the 'Tip of the Sip."

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. - noon, Fridays. Admission to the gallery is free.
