"HEDY! The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr" is coming to the Heindl Center March 5

Senatobia, MS (02/26/2024) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's Heindl Center for the Performing Arts is hosting "HEDY! The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr" March 5 at 7:30 p.m. The one-woman production explores the life, inventions, and person behind the title of "the most beautiful woman in the world."

Lamarr was famous for her acting and her inventions helped make wireless devices like WiFi, CDMA, and Bluetooth available. She was a courageous figure during WWII, when she helped support the US Navy's war effort by inventing the Secret Communications System with composer George Antheil making torpedoes more accurate. A lady of many talents, Lamarr defied stereotypes and challenged preconceived notions about women's contributions to society.

Heather Massie, the writer and actress who portrays Lamarr in the play, comes from a scientific background herself having studied Astrophysics with a dream of becoming an astronaut unites her two loves of science and art into one with this show portraying the legendary Lamarr herself.

"This captivating performance honors Hedy Lamarr, the Hollywood star who was also a remarkable inventor," said the director of the Heindl Center, Dr. Blake Bostick. "Known as 'the most beautiful woman in the world,' Lamarr created groundbreaking technology and co-invented the Secret Communication System during World War II. This one-woman performance by Heather Massie, who portrays 36 characters in this solo play, will inspire intelligence, ingenuity, and innovation. Come delve into the extraordinary life of this iconic actress and inventor with us in HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr on Tuesday, March 5."
