Dr. Courtney McMullen named as Director of Associate Degree Nursing at NWCC

by Sarah Smith

Senatobia, MS (07/16/2025) — Northwest Mississippi Community College announced Dr. Courtney McMullen of Coldwater as the new director of Associate Degree Nursing. Dr. McMullen has been a proud part of the Northwest community for a long time, first coming to Northwest as a student, then serving as a faculty member before stepping into her latest role.

Dr. McMullen graduated Northwest in 2007, then went on to study at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2016, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice, Nursing Administration, at Samford University in 2024.

"I'm truly honored to have been promoted to director of this program," said Dr. McMullen. "As a former non-traditional nursing student, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to teach in and lead such an exceptional program. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me, and I approach this role with a strong sense of responsibility and humility. It is my sincere hope to serve the program, our students, and our faculty with integrity, dedication, and respect."

Dr. McMullen continues to develop her skills and her education. She is an accomplished nurse and instructor beloved by her students and staff alike at Northwest.

"Dr. McMullen has accumulated significant experience through her time at Northwest and her extensive clinical health care background," said Dr. Craig Lafferty, dean of the School of Health Sciences. "Her dedication to the program combined with her genuine care for students makes her an exceptional leader. Dr. McMullen is a natural choice having previously served as course coordinator as well as a graduate of the Bower Leadership Fellowship program. The nursing faculty endorse her appointment because they believe she will advance our program while motivating our students."

Outside of her professional life at Northwest, McMullen enjoys her family, friends, pets, and being a part of her church's praise team as a singer and pianist. She said those activities allow her to recharge and stay grounded.
