Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Burton took the world by storm after appearing on the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson on October 28, 1981, where he did a 12-minute routine. That was the first of 10 appearances that Burton made while Carson was host.

During his career, he completed 15,000 shows. His first job in Las Vegas was a featured act in "The Folies Bergere" at the Tropicana Hotel, a job he was at for 9 years. Mostly retired now, Burton still takes on some shows around the United States and the World.
