Northwest Administrator, Keith Reed, selected as one of 23 to Receive Distinguished College Administrator Award

by Sarah Smith

Jackson, MS (04/09/2024) — Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) will recognize 23 college administrators with Distinguished College Administrator Awards during PTK Catalyst 2024, the Society's annual convention in Orlando, Florida, April 4-6, 2024.

The award recognizes college administrators working directly with student leaders to solve problems on campus and in their communities. They have taken an active interest in supporting high-achieving students and developing student leaders.

"These college administrators are beloved on campus-they know students by name and by circumstance," said Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. "This award is special because it comes directly from the students, and it is evidence of the gratitude they feel for the support for them and students like them."

Dr. Keith Reed, dean of Northwest Mississippi Community College's DeSoto campus, was selected amongst this group. Dr. Reed has been dean of the DeSoto Center since September of 2018. Before becoming dean, he served as associate dean for the DeSoto Center, was the center's Career-Technical director in 2013 and was as an instructor in the Business Division between 2006-2013. But his journey at DeSoto Center began years prior when he studied two programs: Funeral Service Technology and Business Administration.

"Dr. Keith Reed embodies the ideals and hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa which are all centered around student success," said Dr. Michael Heindl, president of Northwest. "He's a former full-time faculty member, now adjunct instructor, in addition to his administrative role as leader at the DeSoto Center. He does a great job everyday seeking to help students transform their lives through education and is a staunch advocate for Northwest and Phi Theta Kappa."
