Northwest Bands Concert April 25

by Sarah Smith

Senatobia, MS (04/10/2024) — The Northwest Mississippi Community College Bands Concert will be held April 25 at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. The concert is free to Northwest students and staff and the community.

Tim Garrett, director of Bands at Northwest, said that these students go above and beyond to prepare for these concerts. They work hard to represent the college and the bands in a positive light.

"We started learning a new program of music in mid-February and have tried to incorporate standard wind band literature, modern wind band literature, a collaborative piece where we feature a faculty member, music from underrepresented composers, and other standards in the wind band literature world," said Garrett.

There are two Northwest Bands performing at this concert, and they will be performing a variety of music. Band directors, Garrett and Dr. John Hagan encourage everyone to come out and attend.

These concerts are an opportunity for the public to get insight into what the students learn at Northwest and see them perform amongst their peers before they graduate and go on to senior institutions.
