Northwest Basketball Alum Calvin Madlock Honored as a Northwest Sports Hall of Famer

by Sarah Smith-Hutchinson

Senatobia, MS (10/23/2025) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's 1979-1981 basketball alumnus Calvin Madlock was named a Northwest Sports Hall of Fame recipient at the Northwest Foundation's annual Homecoming celebration on Oct. 16 at the Haraway Center on the Senatobia campus. Madlock was one of six outstanding former athletes inducted during the event.

A Sardis, Mississippi native, Madlock got his start at Northwest where he helped the team capture a pair of division titles. Coached under one of Northwest's best, Kenneth "Cat" Robbins they set a combined overall record of 55-7. As a sophomore his average scoring per game was 22 points with 12 rebounds per game. He helped the Rangers rise to a 22-6 overall record which earned him All-MACJC and All-Region 23 accolades.

After Northwest, Madlock transferred to Northwestern State University where he had a great career. In 2013, he was selected alongside several of his teammates to join the Demons' "Fab 50" all-time basketball team which was developed to celebrate 100 years of NSU basketball.

In 1984, Madlock continued his career as an undrafted rookie, participating in the 1984 NBA Summer Pro League in Los Angeles/San Diego, California. This showcased his promising talent before an injury sadly ended his professional basketball career. Afterwards, he took a position with the Cheaters where he continued competing alongside NBA players after shifting his career focus.

Madlock continues to make an impact working at Santa Monica Community College District in California where he's the chief director for their Information Technology Department. In addition to that, he serves as the president of the Heights at Ladera Board of Directors and has been involved in Weingart YMCA, University of Irvine Advisory Board, and Boys-to-Men Club of Los Angeles that mentors young men.
