Northwest Celebrates Community College Month

Northwest Celebrates Community College Month by Showcasing Workforce Pathways, Transfer Success, and High Value Education

by Sarah Smith-Hutchinson

Senatobia, MS (04/17/2026) — This April, Northwest Mississippi Community College joins colleges nationwide in celebrating Community College Month (#CCMonth), highlighting the essential role community and technical colleges play in powering America's workforce and expanding economic opportunity. #CCMonth is an annual grassroots campaign to bring attention to the value and importance of community colleges led by the Association of Community College Trustees.

This past year has been substantial for Northwest with a lot of firsts for the College. Career-Technical Education's successes continued as they opened the Commercial Electric program at DeSoto Center and Welding and Cutting at the Batesville Concourse. Northwest's Fine Arts and English students won over 20 awards combined, alongside the release of Northwest's first-ever studio album, which was produced by the Entertainment Industry students and faculty members. Northwest is a star in more than just the classroom and is equally impressive on the field. Sports successes this year include the women's national champion soccer team bringing home the national title for a second year in a row, football winning the MACCC Championship, women's basketball defeating Pearl River, which qualified them to go to the national tournament, and multiple other teams being nationally ranked.

In addition, Northwest has also opened multiple state-of-the-art facilities, which celebrate excellence in everything from academia to athletics, including the Northwest DeSoto Ranger Center, the renovated R.C. Pugh Library, and the Athletic Performance Facility.

Northwest Mississippi Community College looks forward to continuing its excellence into the next 100 years as they kick off its Centennial celebration in September 2026.
