by Sarah Smith-Hutchinson

Senatobia, MS (03/07/2026) — Four Northwest Mississippi Community College students participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Mississippi Chapter state auditions hosted Feb. 27-28 at Northwest's own Heindl Center for the Performing Arts.

Music pathway student, Adam Wiley of Hernando, won first place in the second-year Post High School Classical TBB Division. Olivia Callahan of Lake Cormorant, a theatre major, won first place for Lower Musical Theater Treble. Music major Lee Clausel from Hernando won fourth for Lower Musical Theater TBB Division and in One Year Post High School Classical TBB division. Musical Theatre pathway student, Allison Scurlock of Olive Branch, was semifinalist in Lower Musical Theater Treble Division.

"It is a testament to the quality of our music program generally and our voice faculty specifically that we have students competing favorably against four-year programs from across the state," said Dr. Alex Belohlavek, director of Choral Activities. "We're proud of all of the students who competed, and are excited to have several first-place finishers."
