Northwest Les Fauves Art Sale Happening May 4

by Sarah Smith

Senatobia, MS (04/27/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College Department of Fine Arts club Les Fauves is having its annual spring art sale on Thursday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus.

Les Fauves was started over 40 years ago by art instructors Jac Young and Lane Tutor and has become a well-loved tradition, according to Northwest art instructor, Lawayne House.

"The Les Fauves art club was designed to promote awareness and collaboration of art on campus and within the community," House said. "Over the years, club members have participated in exhibitions and special projects in Senatobia and nearby communities."

This sale is an opportunity for students and faculty to showcase their work to the public for purchase. There will be a myriad of artworks available including pottery, paintings, photography, drawings, sculptures, and mixed media.

"The Les Fauves art club sale is one of the most successful visual art events on campus," House said. "In fact, it is a beloved Northwest tradition. Come on out and join the fun! Help support these young artists as they are preparing themselves for a variety of creative careers."

Addison Pilant of Southaven, sophomore art student, said that this is a great opportunity for art students like herself.

"We work really hard to create artwork that the public will enjoy and that we hope inspires the viewer," Pilant said. "All of the amazing works that are purchased at the sale supports the students, and the Les Fauves art club here at Northwest. My peers and I would love it if you could come out to support our hard work."

This sale is just part of one of the long traditions this organization is a part of. House said that for many years, customers have asked if they would take debit or credit cards. For the first time ever, with assistance from Bookstore Manager Joel Boyles, customers will be able to make purchases using debt or credit cards in addition to cash and checks.
