Northwest LPN Challenge Advanced Placement Option to be discontinued

Senatobia, MS (11/29/2018) — The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing recently announced that the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Challenge Advanced Placement option for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program will be discontinued after Fall 2019.

According to Dr. Denise Bynum, division director of Nursing, applicants who wish to take advantage of this option before it ends should apply between Jan. 1 - Feb. 15 for the Spring 2019 challenge examinations or between Aug. 1 - Sept.-15 for the Fall 2019 challenge examinations.

The Division of Nursing's current policy states that an LPN challenge applicant may attempt the examination twice, Bynum said. She noted that 2019 applicants who want to have two opportunities to complete the challenge will need to apply for the Spring 2019 challenge examinations. "Anyone who applies for the Fall 2019 Challenge examinations will only have one opportunity, as Fall 2019 will be the last semester the LPN Challenge examinations will be offered," Bynum said.

She noted that the Division of Nursing will continue to offer the LPN-RN Transition Advanced Placement option and the Traditional Track Option for LPNs wishing to further their nursing education.

Information can be obtained by visiting the nursing page on the Northwest website at northwestms.edu/nursing or by calling the Division of Nursing at 662-562-3283, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
