Northwest Mississippi Community College Choirs Invite Community to SENIOR (Citizen) Immersion Day
Senatobia, MS (04/21/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College SENIOR (Citizen) Immersion Day with music students is a day for Senior Citizens of the northwest Mississippi community to come and fellowship with current Northwest Mississippi Community College Students on April 25, at 10 a.m. in the Choir room at the Heindl Center.
This event is a great way for students to connect with community elders that maybe they wouldn't otherwise have the chance to.
"The chasm between that generation and this one is growing so closing that gap is special," said Reese Norris, director of choral activities.
Events like this better the community, explained Dr. Saundra Bishop, instructor of music.
"It's mutually beneficial," Dr. Bishop said.
Dr. Bishop, Reese Norris, and Dr. Stellah Mbugua, assistant instructor of music, mentioned how some students who were at this event still talked about the one lady they had built a relationship with. It is an endearing event for both parties involved.
It is open to anyone who identifies themselves as a senior citizen and would like to share meaningful moments with Northwest students who will welcome them, sing for them, and fellowship with them at this time in their life.
The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Heindl Center Choir room and carry over into lunch at the Haraway, where the only cost for participants is their lunch. Each participant will get a t-shirt, and a great time with enthusiastic students.
All senior citizens are welcome to attend. For more information contact Reese Norris at rnorris@northwestms.edu.
