Northwest Practical Nursing programs achieve 95 percent pass rate

Senatobia, MS (03/28/2019) — Northwest Mississippi Community College is proud to announce that the 2017-18 graduates of the Practical Nursing programs achieved an overall 94.89 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination-PN (NCLEX-PN®), the licensing examination for practical nurses.

According to Dr. Stephanie Mullins, director of Northwest's Practical Nursing program, 93 out of 98 students passed the NCLEX-PN®.The Senatobia, DeSoto Center (evening and weekend) and Oxford (spring start) programs achieved a 100 percent pass rate, Mullins said. The Practical Nursing program remains above the national average.

"Without the dedication of the superior PN faculty, these goals would not have been achieved. In my opinion, the faculty at Northwest are dedicated to investing into the profession of nursing by cultivating the best nurses in the state of Mississippi," Mullins stated.

The program learning outcomes of the Practical Nursing program at Northwest are built upon the educational experience in which students learn to develop critical thinking skills, apply acquired knowledge, and become a valuable member of the health care industry.

Students learn the essential skills to deliver basic care of clients according to the variation of health care needs under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, and/or licensed dentist.

The Northwest Practical Nursing program follows the 2015 Mississippi Community College Standards for Practical Nursing Accreditation for program learning outcomes achievement. Graduates of the program receive a Career Certificate and meet the requirements for application to the Mississippi Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX-PN® for licensure.

The Practical Nursing program is available at the Senatobia, Ashland, DeSoto and Oxford campuses.

Applications for fall enrollment at all campuses are open until April 30, 2019.
