Dr. Michael J. Heindl, President of Northwest Mississippi Community College, has been nominated to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The AACC is a prominent advocacy organization representing over a thousand two-year colleges that grant associate degrees and serve nearly 12 million students across the nation.

The AACC's mission is to advance American community colleges by providing a national voice, serving as a resource center, creating networking opportunities, facilitating collaboration, fostering a shared commitment to the community college movement, and offering leadership and career development opportunities.

Reflecting on his nomination, Dr. Heindl said, "It is a great honor to have been selected to serve on the AACC Board. The board provides guidance to the association as it serves the community colleges in the nation. The visions of the college and the association-student success and student transformation-perfectly align, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the nation in this important work."

Governed by a 32-member Board of Directors, the AACC ensures adherence to high standards of performance. Dr. Heindl, the only representative from a Mississippi community college on the board this year, will serve a three-year term through 2027. In this role, he will contribute to significant changes and reinforce the successful foundations of the organization.

A Mississippi community college graduate himself, Dr. Heindl brings 24 years of experience in critical areas such as finance, technology, legal issues, human resources, emergency management, campus leadership, student services, workforce training, and admissions. He holds a Ph.D. in community college leadership from Mississippi State University (2011), a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University (2001), a B.S. in psychology from Mississippi College (1997), and an Associate of Arts in general studies/music from Hinds Community College (1994).
