by Sarah Smith

Senatobia, MS (07/12/2023) — Northwest Mississippi Community College's dean of Health Sciences, Dr. Stephanie Mullins recently completed the esteemed Mississippi Community College Policy Fellow Program (CPFP).

Northwest Mississippi Community College president, Dr. Michael Heindl, appointed Dr. Mullins to attend this program. One or two members of the 15 community colleges in the state of Mississippi were represented in this cohort, according to Dr. Mullins.

The goal of the CPFP is to provide a deeper level of understanding of what community college administrators need to know in the state of Mississippi. This program creates a dedicated space for those seeking to expand their knowledge.

"The program met face-to-face once a month to discuss relevant policies and legislative processes that impact higher education, community colleges, and the students we serve," Dr. Mullins said. "Through this program, I gained a greater understanding of the community, state, and national impact of policymaking and the legislative process need to develop and the tenacity to see a bill to completion."

Dr. Mullins said that Mississippi is gifted with innovative educational leaders, and this is an example of those leaders working together towards a common goal of impacting students' lives. Dr. Mullins completing this program is furthering the college's core values including excellence, service, and leadership.
