Upcoming Reading Roundtable set for April 25

Senatobia, MS (04/06/2017) — The April meeting of Northwest Mississippi Community College's Reading Roundtable, made possible with funds from Sycamore Bank, will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at 2 p.m., in the R.C. Pugh Library on the Senatobia campus.

In 1993, Greg Mortenson was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers in Pakistan and promised to build them a school.

From that rash promise grew one of the most incredible humanitarian campaigns of our time-Mortenson's one-man mission to counteract extremism by building schools, especially for girls, throughout the breeding ground of the Taliban.

Award-winning journalist David Oliver Relin collaborated on this spellbinding account of Mortenson's incredible accomplishments in a region where Americans are often feared and hated. Over the following decade Mortenson built 55 schools.

Three Cups of Tea is at once an unforgettable adventure and the inspiring story of how one man really is changing the world-one school at a time. Dr. Melissa Wright, director of Learning Resources will lead the discussion.

The purpose of the program is to provide a forum to read and discuss a variety of books during the course of every semester. Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month.

Participants must fill out a registration form, and those wishing to purchase a copy of the book being discussed may do so for $5. Personal or library copies may also be used.

For more information or to register, contact Courtney Hicks, instructional librarian at (662) 562-3278 or e-mail chicks@northwestms.edu.
