The Sophomore II Nursing class at Northwest Mississippi Community College collected school supplies for the children of West End Ministries in Hernando.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Education Association (NWEA) is one of the active student organizations on the Senatobia campus. The Northwest Mississippi Community College practical nursing class at the DeSoto Center has been volunteering in the community to help build upon their educational studies in the Practical Nursing program. While students are working on practicum studies in the clinical settings of Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto, Senatobia Convalescent Center, Landmark of Desoto or Desoto Health Care and Rehab, they are also volunteering their nursing skills with the children at ICC Headstart in Southaven and applying critical thinking skills in disaster training classes in Memphis. Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing students collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis to recycle for fundraising, collecting over 80 jugs of pop tabs this fall. The students compete to gather the most pop tabs every fall, according to Northwest Nursing Simulation Specialist, Pam Briscoe. "The contest runs the entire month of October," said Briscoe. "The contest is between the nursing classes from first semester freshmen through second semester graduating sophomores, so each level competes against the other. The winning level is treated to some type of gift, usually cake or cupcakes. The students start collecting as soon as the contest ends for next fall, asking co-workers, friends and family to save the tabs." Area students from the Division of Nursing helped in the effort:

Northwest Nursing students are well known for their volunteerism in their communityaEUR"collecting soda tabs for Ronald McDonald house in Memphis to recycle for fundraising, collecting Yoplait yogurt lids for breast cancer research, collecting food for the needy each holiday season and teaching area elementary schoolers about hygiene, healthy habits and playground safety. Recently area students assisted Senatobia Middle School nurse, Angie Crockett, with conducting vision screenings for all of the middle school students:
