Northwest Mississippi Community College officials announced that graduates have been awarded degrees and certificates for the Spring 2025 semester. Degrees were officially conferred by Dr. Michael Heindl, Northwest president, on May 8 and 9, during the college's 118th Commencement.

Northwest Mississippi Community College inducts 18 new members into the mathematics honor society Mu Alpha Theta on April 4, 2025. Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society focused on excellence and interest in mathematics. Founded at the University of Oklahoma in 1957, the honor society boasts over 100,000 members across over two thousand schools across the United States and 23 foreign countries. Like most honor societies, this allows students to have unique opportunities for scholarships and community with like-minded students. "We are excited to have 18 students initiated into Mu Alpha Theta this year," said instructor of Mathematics, Dr. Jennifer Jones. "These students have excelled in their math courses, and they are very deserving of this recognition."

As the 2024 college football season closes, the Rangers capped off their incredible season by securing the MACCC Championship, finishing with an impressive 10-2 record, and earning a spot in the NJCAA Division I Football Playoffs. Northwest was ranked in the top 4 to start the season and finished as No. 4 in the final NJCAA national rankings, marking the ninth time in the last ten seasons the Rangers have finished nationally ranked. With their dominant performance throughout the season, Northwest captured their 20th MACCC North Division title, their 12th conference championship, and advanced to the NJCAA national semifinals for the third time in four years, a testament to the program's consistency and excellence under head coach Benjy Parker. Northwest's playoff journey came to an end in the national semifinal matchup against top-ranked Iowa Western, but the Rangers demonstrated resilience and heart throughout the contest, battling one of the nation's best programs on the road. The season was filled with standout moments, including thrilling victories over top-ranked opponents, record-breaking individual performances, and another championship trophy added to the program's storied history. Head coach Benjy Parker, who was named MACCC North Division Coach of the Year, praised the team's dedication and determination. "This group of student-athletes fought through adversity and never wavered in their commitment to excellence. I'm incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see what the future holds for them." With another championship season in the books, the Rangers remain one of the premier programs in the NJCAA, continuing their legacy of excellence on and off the field.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Nov. 24, 2024) - The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team capped a storybook season by capturing its first-ever NJCAA Division II National Championship, finishing with a perfect 22-0 record. From the outset of the campaign, the Lady Rangers established themselves as the nation's top team. They swept through the regular season to claim the MACCC Championship, then added the NJCAA Region 23 title before embarking on a historic postseason run. In the championship match, Northwest earned a convincing 2-0 victory, becoming the first NJCAA Division II women's soccer program to finish undefeated since 2020. Under the guidance of head coach James Beattie, who became the program's all-time winningest coach this year, Northwest outscored opponents by a wide margin and produced numerous shutout victories. The Lady Rangers' blend of attacking firepower and disciplined defense proved too much for the competition, culminating in the first national crown for the Senatobia-based program.

Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWCC) cheer and dance teams brought home multiple national championships from the 2025 UCA/UDA College Nationals in Orlando, Florida. The NWCC cheer team, led by head coach Brandon Casey and assistant coach Rainy Bordelon, captured national titles in the Open All-Girl Traditional division and the Open Co-Ed Game Day division. The cheer squad secured back-to-back victories in the All-Girl Traditional category, reaffirming their dominance in collegiate cheerleading. With these wins, the NWCC cheer team has now earned a total of six national championships in their five years of competition under Casey's six-year tenure. "It's an incredible achievement for our team to defend our title in the All-Girl Traditional division and reclaim the Co-Ed Game Day championship," Casey said. "Our athletes have worked tirelessly, and their dedication and passion have truly paid off." In the Open All-Girl Traditional finals, NWCC secured the gold medal with a score of 82.9, finishing ahead of Pearl River, which earned an 81.2 event score. The cheer squad also excelled in the Open Co-Ed Game Day division, earning an impressive score of 94.8333 to claim first place over Mississippi Gulf Coast and Campbellsville University. The NWCC dance team, led by head coach Patrice Christian, achieved their second consecutive national championship in the Open Hip-Hop division. This marks the third year for the NWCC dance team to compete at UDA Nationals, their third consecutive year medaling, and their second year claiming a national championship. The team delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with a raw score of 99.9333 and an event score of 95.1746, outperforming runners-up West Chester University by nearly five points. "Winning back-to-back national titles is a testament to our team's hard work and perseverance," Christian said. "Their commitment to excellence and passion for dance have made this victory possible." The NWCC dance team also earned a third-place finish in the Open Game Day division, continuing their impressive showing at the national level. Adding to the excitement, Casey's wife, Skylar Casey, who serves as the head coach of Ole Miss Cheer, led her team to their first-ever Division IA Traditional All Girl National Championship this weekend, making it a championship-winning weekend for the Casey family. These victories mark a historic moment for NWCC, reflecting the college's strong athletic program and the unwavering support of its administration, faculty, students, and community. Degrees were officially conferred by Dr. Michael Heindl, Northwest president, on Friday December 13, during the college's 117th Commencement. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch served as commencement speaker and shared her unique insights and wisdom with the graduates. Fitch is Mississippi's 40th Attorney General and the state's first-ever female Attorney General. She was elected in January of 2020 and was re-elected in 2023. In 2022, Time Magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, alongside many other accolades for her accomplished career. Dr. Heindl also surprised the Honorable Fitch with her own degree via reverse transfer from the college where she started her college career many years ago.

This honor society opens students up to multiple scholarship opportunities including transfer scholarships at state universities like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Delta State, and University of Southern Mississippi. To qualify to be a part of PTK students must have completed 12 hours of coursework with at least at 3.5 GPA. Once a student is eligible, they receive an invitation usually by mail.

Northwest Mississippi Community College's Gamma Beta Phi inducted 116 members on April 3. Gamma Beta Phi is a service minded honor society that celebrates servitude of the community and academic excellence. Gamma Beta Phi was founded in Spartanburg, South Carolina by a group of Southern college educators and is a natural extension of the Beta Club, which is a high school honor society. They work on projects such as collecting books for St. Jude Children's Hospital, collecting shoes for citizens of Iraq, and many more charitable acts.

Northwest Mississippi Community College's Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society inducted six new members at their annual induction ceremony on April 18 at the Math and Science Building on the Senatobia campus. "Mu Alpha Theta is a national honor society for students who have excelled in their math courses," said Jennifer Jones, instructor of Mathematics at Northwest. "Students must meet the academic qualifications for induction into Mu Alpha Theta. Each of our 2024 initiates are dedicated to their academic studies and are very deserving of this honor. I have enjoyed getting to know these students and wish them success in the future."

Currently, Sandridge is serving his fourth term, and he prides himself on being an advocate for the community. Sandridge founded a non-profit organization called "Tate County Bridging the Gap Inc" in 2012.
