For the first time in college history, a Northwest Mississippi Community College theatre student has earned a first place award at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

Northwest arts students shine in annual Holiday Art sale

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Les Fauves Art Club held its annual holiday art sale on Friday, Dec. 4 in the Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus. The sale, which helps raise money for the Art Department, is a great opportunity for individuals to buy original artwork created by students and faculty, according to Lawayne House, Art Department chair. Drawings, paintings, ceramics, photographs and other creative works were for sale.

Northwest sophomore art students' work to be exhibited

The April art exhibit at Northwest Mississippi Community College will feature the work of sophomore art students, according to Lawayne House, Northwest art chair. The work will be on display at the Northwest Art Gallery, located on the Senatobia campus, from April 6 - 17, with a reception on Thursday, April 9 from 5-7 p.m.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Fine Arts Theatre Department is in rehearsals for its next production, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," a musical based on the best selling children's book by Judith Viorst. Viorst wrote the book and the lyrics for the play. The music was written by Shelly Markham.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Fine Arts will present Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile." Performances will be held Thursday - Saturday, Jan. 30- Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia Campus. Northwest Singers perform at Carnegie Hall

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Singers and Chamber Choir are back from their trip to New York City, where they were a part of the premiere performance of Dan Forrest's "Requiem for the Living" on January 19 in Carnegie Hall's Issac Stern Auditorium. The choirs performed under the direction of Dr. James Meaders. The performance was part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY). Northwest Idol winner announced

Joseph Kelly, a freshman general college major from Oxford, was named Northwest Idol for the spring 2012 semester on April 11. Twenty-four students auditioned for the judges, who chose 10 to continue on to the semifinals on April 9, where the audience then voted for their favorite five contestants to continue to the finals on April 11. The Northwest Idol finalists included:

Northwest theatre department presents Bill Irwin's Scapin

Plenty of innuendo, physical comedy, exaggerated characters, fast-paced action and even unicycle riding are in store for audience members attending the Northwest Mississippi Community College theatre department's presentation of Scapin by Bill Irwin, a comedic adaptation of MoliA?re's 325-year-old farce Les Fourberies de Scapin, Feb. 16-18 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia Campus.According to Joel King, director and Division of Fine Arts technical director, this farce is packed with audience interaction, chase scenes, brightly colored costumes and overly dramatic performances that are sure to entertain audience members of all ages. As the play unfolds, the crafty servant Scapin promises to help two pairs of wide-eyed lovers while juggling an array of elaborate disguises and scams to keep their wealthy fathers from discovering they are being swindled out of large sums of their own money. Remaining true to Moliere's classic farcical tale from the seventeenth century, this adaptation adds a late twentieth century spin to the language.Area students involved in the production include:
