Northwest Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical Advisory breakfast draws over 150 business and industry leaders

Over 150 North Mississippi business and industry leaders attended the Northwest Mississippi Community College Northwest Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical Education Advisory Committee and District Workforce Development Council Meeting on April 2 at the David M. Haraway Center on the Senatobia campus.

Each year these industry professionals join Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical faculty and staff to discuss ways Northwest can enhance their curricula to best meet the changing demands of today's highly-technical workplace.

The group was welcomed to the campus by Dr. David Campbell, vice president of Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical Education who thanked them for their continued support of the college.

Dwayne Casey, associate dean of Workforce Solutions and Manufacturing Programs introduced the keynote speaker, Northwest President Dr. Michael Heindl.

Heindl, who has been in office since July 2018, outlined the college's culture. "We have a culture at Northwest with a purpose centered around our 'why' we do what we do, and based upon a team comprised of ideal team players who are 'humble, hungry and smart.' We have a culture where we doggedly pursue being a smart institution, where we know our business like financial, marketing and enrollment and by being a healthy institution with low politics, much communication and high morale," Heindl said.

He talked about how the college is in the process of revising its Strategic Plan for 2019-2022. He stated that meetings with employees and community members had been held in the fall and that the results of these meetings are being tabulated to form the college's new plan. "We are beginning with the end in mind. We want to begin with a clear picture and ask, 'What does Northwest look like many years from now?'"

Heindl outlined the college's new facilities master plan that includes opportunities for the college with Workforce Training and Career-Technical Education expansions in Senatobia, Oxford, Panola County and DeSoto County; Northwest's participation in the "Great Colleges to Work For Program," current and advanced technology to better serve students and growth of dual enrollment, adult education and high school equivalency opportunities. "We would like to be able to provide more Career-Technical programs and meet more needs in Workforce Training," Heindl said.

After dismissal, Northwest Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical instructors and administrators met with members of local business and industry to discuss the latest trends and needs in each area.
