Northwest Nursing Students Collect Yoplait Lids For Cancer Research

Students in the Division of Nursing at Northwest Mississippi Community College began collecting Yoplait lids in October to redeem through the "Save Lids to Save Lives" program. Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the CureA(R) for each pink lid redeemed by Dec. 31, 2011, up to $2 million. Area students involved in the project include:

Northwest Division Of Nursing Students Participate In Pediatric Project

Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing students recently participated in a pediatric teaching project at Shadow Oaks Elementary School in Horn Lake. The 52 students enrolled in the pediatric nursing course presented subjects to the children including hand washing, germs, choking, nutrition, hygiene, dental care, playground safety and keeping hands to self, according to Northwest Division of Nursing instructor Sandra Davis. Lady Rangers help Northwest Foundation with Annual Fund campaign

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation is gearing up for their yearly mail out to 12,000 friends and Alumni of the college asking them to support the school through a contribution to their Annual Fund. Members of the Lady Ranger softball team were on hand to help with this very important mailing:

Northwest Nursing students collect pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House

Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing students collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis to recycle for fundraising, collecting over 80 jugs of pop tabs this fall. The students compete to gather the most pop tabs every fall, according to Northwest Nursing Simulation Specialist, Pam Briscoe. "The contest runs the entire month of October," said Briscoe. "The contest is between the nursing classes from first semester freshmen through second semester graduating sophomores, so each level competes against the other. The winning level is treated to some type of gift, usually cake or cupcakes. The students start collecting as soon as the contest ends for next fall, asking co-workers, friends and family to save the tabs." Area students from the Division of Nursing helped in the effort:

Northwest Nursing students help with vision screenings at local middle school

Northwest Nursing students are well known for their volunteerism in their communityaEUR"collecting soda tabs for Ronald McDonald house in Memphis to recycle for fundraising, collecting Yoplait yogurt lids for breast cancer research, collecting food for the needy each holiday season and teaching area elementary schoolers about hygiene, healthy habits and playground safety. Recently area students assisted Senatobia Middle School nurse, Angie Crockett, with conducting vision screenings for all of the middle school students:

"Rangers Go Pink" a success at Northwest

A vibrant pink replaced the usual sea of red and blue that regularly floods Northwest Mississippi Community College football stands as Ranger fans came out in droves dressed to support breast cancer awareness during the "Rangers Go Pink" game versus Northeast Mississippi Community College on Thursday, Sept. 29 to kick off October as Breast Cancer Awareness month. Throughout pre-game Ranger cheerleaders collected donations and invited any supporter to join "Team Northwest" as the squad continues to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Team Northwest" will participate in the Memphis Race for the Cure on Oct. 29 and has raised more than $700 for the cause so far. Area Ranger cheerleaders working for the cause include:

Area students featured in Meet the Rangers at Northwest

Northwest Mississippi Community college athletes, managers, coaches and performers were recognized at Meet the Rangers held August 25 on the Senatobia campus for their participation in this fall athletic season at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Members of the cheerleading squad were recognized, and the Ranger Band gave a preview performance of this year's halftime show, which features the music of Van Halen. Athletes, managers and head coaches of the football team and both soccer programs were also introduced. Area students recognized were:
