Cast and Crew Set for Northwest's October Production of "Slasher"

The cast and crew have been announced for Northwest Mississippi Community College's fall production of the dark comedy, "Slasher," by Allison Moore, according to Samantha Higgins King, director of the play. Performance dates will be Thursday, Oct. 25 - Sunday, Oct. 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus. Area students taking part in the production are:

Northwest students attend Computing Experience Program at MSU

Since the program began in 2010, Northwest Mississippi Community College has sent more participants to the Computing Experience Program at Mississippi State UniversityaEUR"a competitive, five-week, full-scholarship program intended for first-year community college students pursuing majors in business information systems, computer engineering, computer science or software engineeringaEUR"than any other community college in the state. Meet the Rangers held Aug. 27

Northwest Mississippi Community College recognized all those who make the fall athletic season successful at its annual Meet the Rangers event on Aug. 27 in Senatobia. Members of the Ranger football team, men's and women's soccer teams, Ranger Marching Band and Color Guard, Rangerettes, cheerleaders and coaches were recognized at the event. The Ranger Band gave a preview of this year's halftime show featuring the music of Earth, Wind and Fire. Northwest Sports Information Director, Kevin Maloney, was the event emcee, introducing the student athletes and performers and recognizing the coaching staffs. Area students recognized were:

Northwest Nursing Division hosts pinning ceremony for graduates

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing held their pinning ceremony May 10, 2012 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven, celebrating 50 students' completion of the Associate of Arts in nursing. After a processional and invocation lead by Cookie Turner, a class officer from Olive Branch, Dean of Nursing, Ellen Williams, welcomed attendees, presented the faculty and introduced the keynote speaker for the evening, Rosalyn Howard, executive director of the Mississippi Nurses Foundation, who offered the address to the graduates Williams awarded pins adorned with the Division of Nursing seal as Nursing instructor Stacie Pigues presented each of the graduates to the crowd. Six Northwest Mississippi Community College students, accompanied by criminal justice instructors Robert Cox and Willie Sumner, attended the 13th annual Criminal Justice Conference at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College March 30-31. This conference is supported by the Gulf Coast area police departments, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. Northwest Idol winner announced

Joseph Kelly, a freshman general college major from Oxford, was named Northwest Idol for the spring 2012 semester on April 11. Twenty-four students auditioned for the judges, who chose 10 to continue on to the semifinals on April 9, where the audience then voted for their favorite five contestants to continue to the finals on April 11. Northwest practical nursing students volunteer skills for community

The Northwest Mississippi Community College practical nursing class at the DeSoto Center has been volunteering in the community to help build upon their educational studies in the Practical Nursing program. While students are working on practicum studies in the clinical settings of Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto, Senatobia Convalescent Center, Landmark of Desoto or Desoto Health Care and Rehab, they are also volunteering their nursing skills with the children at ICC Headstart in Southaven and applying critical thinking skills in disaster training classes in Memphis. Northwest journalism students bring home awards

Northwest Mississippi Community College journalism students were recognized for their work on the college's newspaper, The Ranger Rocket at the Mississippi Press Association's (MPA) Better Student Newspaper Contest 2011 in Jackson on March 29. The contest winners were announced at the 13th annual O.C. McDavid Journalism Conference, held at the Mississippi Children's Museum. Northwest competed with other community and junior colleges in Mississippi, including East Central Community College, Itawamba Community College, Jones County Junior College, Copiah Lincoln Community College, Natchez and Southwest Mississippi Community College. Outstanding Students named at Northwest

Faculty members at Northwest Mississippi Community College have named the college's 2011-2012 Outstanding Students, according to college officials. One outstanding student is chosen by faculty for each major within a department. The student must attend full-time, and only one outstanding student may be chosen for each major. Outstanding students are named on all three campuses: Senatobia, DeSoto Center (DC) and Lafayette Yalobusha Technical Center (LYTC). Northwest theatre department presents Bill Irwin's Scapin

Plenty of innuendo, physical comedy, exaggerated characters, fast-paced action and even unicycle riding are in store for audience members attending the Northwest Mississippi Community College theatre department's presentation of Scapin by Bill Irwin, a comedic adaptation of MoliA?re's 325-year-old farce Les Fourberies de Scapin, Feb. 16-18 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia Campus.According to Joel King, director and Division of Fine Arts technical director, this farce is packed with audience interaction, chase scenes, brightly colored costumes and overly dramatic performances that are sure to entertain audience members of all ages. As the play unfolds, the crafty servant Scapin promises to help two pairs of wide-eyed lovers while juggling an array of elaborate disguises and scams to keep their wealthy fathers from discovering they are being swindled out of large sums of their own money. Remaining true to Moliere's classic farcical tale from the seventeenth century, this adaptation adds a late twentieth century spin to the language.Area students involved in the production include:
